Jean Monestime Scholarship

The Jean Monestime Scholarship is an annual scholarship initiated to honor the legacy of Commissioner Jean Monestime, a tireless advocate, and a public servant. This scholarship is sponsored by the MJD Wellness and Community Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering access to healthcare, nutrition, and educational programs to underserved anddisadvantaged people in the community.

The Jean Monestime Scholarship is open to two high school students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements, commitment to community service, and a passion for enhancing their communities. The scholarship is a one-time award of [enter amount] to support the student‘s educational pursuits.


Eligibility Requirement:

           ✓ Must be a high school student with good academic standing
           ✓ Must be committed to community service and the betterment of their community
           ✓ Must demonstrate financial need
           ✓ Must submit one letter of recommendation from a mentor or teacher
           ✓ Must have the capability to articulate how the Jean Monestime Scholarship will help them further their goals through a 500 words personal statement
           ✓ Must have completed the scholarship application by the deadline

Applications opens February 1st and closes June 1st.

Decisions will be made on August 1st.

Selection Criteria:

The Jean Monestime Scholarship recipient selection will be based on a thorough review of applicants‘ application materials, with primary emphasis placed on their academic excellence, financial need, personal statement, commitment to service, and community. In addition, the selection committee will consider any extenuating situation that could have hampered the applicant’s academic performance.
